General info about Blakiston’s fish owl (Ketupa / Bubo blakistoni)

Spent 2 nights at Washi No Yado along Chitorai River trying to photograph this amazing owl, the largest in the world. First night, nothing, the second the male came down to catch a fish for the female. All of the group but me and Henrik, which was nice enough to stay with me, had unfortunately gone in one of our cars before the male came.

The first two are taken at very high ISO and lok pretty bad, the rest are taken under a special flash equipment they had mounted close to the creek. It makes it possible to take images at ISO 3200, f/5.6 and 1/80 s using my Nikon 500mm / F4 lens on a Nikon D850.

I the day we also found a Brown dipper in the same creek.
